Reuse in the textile sector

Reuse in the textile sector

Textile reuse must now contend with a new-product market in turmoil. It faces growing volumes from collection, declining quality of resource streams, and increasing requirements for traceability at every stage of sorting and repair. The entry into force of new European regulations and EPR schemes requires securing business models that are already weakened by falling resale prices and volatile outlets, particularly in export markets. Stakeholders must structure more technical value chains: fine and standardized sorting, quality control, refurbishment, repairability, cross-border flow management, and customs compliance. The industrialization of sorting, integration of digital solutions, professionalization of workshops, and upskilling of teams are becoming critical to absorb volumes and preserve value. Textile sovereignty, the local, social, and solidarity-based dimensions of employment, and the fragile balance between regulatory, economic, and environmental considerations are now at the core of the sector’s challenges.
